Weather-Responsive Adaptive Shading

Our Nature Communications paper entitled "Weather-responsive adaptive shading through biobased and bioinspired hygromorphic 4D-printing" received the IntCDC Best Publication Award 2025 at the annual IntCDC Status Seminar.

The IntCDC Best Publication Award recognises up to two excellent publications per year to honour and strengthen early academic independence and dedication to academic work. It is endowed with €1,500 each.

This paper demonstrates that bioinspired 4D printing using biobased cellulosic materials provides a resource-efficient, energy-autonomous approach to adaptive shading at the architectural scale, with potential benefits for indoor climate regulation and climate change mitigation.
