On May 6, the ITECH thesis project “Reclaimed Design – An availability-oriented design methodology for reclaimed lumber ”developed by Clara Blum, Laura Marsillo and Gonzalo Muñoz Guerrero, has been awarded the Studierendenpreis “Innovative Holzverwendung und Holzbau Baden-Württemberg”.
ICD/CA researcher Laura Marsillo accepted the award on behalf of the team during the conference “Drei Länder, eine Mission: Holzbau – weil Zukunft nachwachsen muss!” in Friedrichshafen.
The project Reclaimed Design proposes a novel design methodology that places material availability at the core of the architectural process, aiming to unlock the potential of reclaimed timber in sustainable construction.
The project was developed under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Thomas Wortman and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jan Knippers, and the researchers Zuardin Akbar and Tzu-Ying Chen. It was partially developed through the Autodesk Research Residency Program, supported by Polytec and the IntCDC Cluster of Excellence.
The prize, awarded by the Landesbeirat Holz Baden-Württemberg e.V., honors outstanding student work that demonstrates innovative approaches in timber and timber-hybrid construction, wood utilization, digital and structural planning, or the advancement of wood-based building culture.
