On September 24th, our Research Associate Rebeca Duque Estrada will speak at the 14th São Paulo International Architecture Biennale in São Paulo, Brazil. She will present a lecture titled “Three paths for building with fibers”.
The lecture showcases her work on fiber architecture through the lenses of material, geometry, and fabrication. It discusses how the intrinsic properties of fibers can be expanded into hybrid structures with strong structural and environmental performance, and how digital and robotic processes enable the creation of complex yet lightweight structures. Different projects developed at the Institute for Computational Design and Construction (ICD) and the Cluster of Excellence IntCDC | University of Stuttgart are presented throughout the talk, showing how integrating these approaches results in innovative, sustainable, and high-performing architecture, with a strong emphasis on natural fibers as biomaterials that bring together tradition, innovation, and ecological responsibility.
Special thanks to the curators Graziela Nivoloni and Marcella Arruda for the invitation and organization.
