Award
BUGA Fibre Pavilion

The DETAIL Prize 2020 was awarded to ICD / ITKE University of Stuttgart for the BUGA Fibre Pavilion in the category “Prize for Students and Schools of Architecture”.
We are extremely happy to receive this prestigious award! Thanks to the entire project team and to the BUGA 2019 for giving us the possibility to innovate on this level.

The prize for Students and Schools of Architecture was awarded for the first time to young creative talents with projects realised at architecture schools. The jury was looking for "a building that is especially characterised by a willingness to experiment, innovative processes and technical details within an outstanding overall design" in the call for submissions.

The prize was awarded with the following statement from the jury:
“This pavilion impressively demonstrates the important role that universities can play as research sites for architecture. Based on advanced material technology and digital production methods, this structure was developed in close interdisciplinary cooperation between architects, structural engineers and various industrial companies. Its actual construction, however, was preceded by years of research and development work - the intensity of which is probably only possible in a university context. The elegance and lightness of the resulting space is reminiscent of the experimental designs of both Cedric Price and Buckminster Fuller, while its highly optimised, expressive structure is testimony to the age-old insight that new building materials may also suggest new forms of architectural expression.”
