Construction-oriented fibre composite systems for robotically wound lightweight roof and ceiling systems

The project partners have been working for several years on processing methods for fibre-reinforced composites that are oriented towards architecture and construction. These are based on robotic winding processes that do not require complex moulds or mandrels and thus enable resource- and cost-efficient production of large-format individual building elements. The reinforcement fibres are laid in accordance with the load paths, so that very efficient lightweight structures are created. The suitability of this approach has been proven in several pilot projects. The main objective of this project is to open up a broad application potential for these production methods and related building systems. To this end, they are to be further developed structurally for standardised, highly efficient roof and ceiling systems. On the other hand, ceramic matrix systems in combination with different fibre types are to be adapted to the winding process. Through this, the project aims to overcome one of the main obstacles to the wider use of composite materials in construction, namely the poor temperature and fire resistance of organic matrix systems.
