Perspective and the Perception of Space

The history of representational techniques in architecture coheres with the development of perspective drawing methods based on the use of projective geometry. Our perception of space is inseparably connected to the techniques of geometric description and its subsequent two-dimensional representations. The historic development of theories of spatial perception and the interdependence to its various representations through techniques of projection constitute the main focus of this seminar. The interdependence between the development of perspective drawing and the perception of space will be investigated through the examination of different historic examples.
