Stereotomic Fibre Architecture

In this workshop, the participants were introduced to robotic coreless filament winding. After a conceptual and methodological introduction to the topic, involving both expert lectures and hands-on tutorials, the participants developed their own fibre winding strategies in smaller groups.

In several skill-up sessions, the participants were taught the digital tools for computational design and fabrication simulation of fibrous structures. A small-scale robot in a robotic training cell was equipped with a custom end-effector and the participants had the opportunity to explore robot programming hands-on.

The workshop concluded with the fabrication of a large physical prototype in form of a coreless-wound long-span demonstrator which was exhibited in the city of Matera.
