Long is an active researcher and academic tutor in Computational Design, Digital Fabrication, and BIM. He has been holding a full-time Research Associate position at the Institute for Computational Design (ICD) at the University of Stuttgart since 2014. His academic background is in Computer Science, with an emphasis on 3D Computer Graphics. Long graduated with a Bachelor degree in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge in 2010 and a Master degree with Distinction in Computer Graphics and Virtual Environment from University College London (UCL) in 2011.

In 2011, Long started to be involved with the AEC community, with primary focuses on BIM (Building Information Modelling) and computational design. He developed a small collection of Revit plugins that expand the conceptual modelling capabilities of the software. In 2013, He participated in two Zaha Hadid Architects projects in Morocco and China as a technology consultant, in which he led the development of a toolset that enables the shared modelling workflow between Rhinoceros/Grasshopper and Revit.

As a computer scientist with several years working with the AEC community, Long has developed a deep interest in computational design. His main interests include computational geometries, computational form finding, digital/robotic fabrication, generative design, evolutionary computation.

Long values open-source approaches and advocates the sharing and exchanging of ideas and knowledge in the field. He has a great passion for teaching programming, algorithms, mathematics and computational design thinking, especially to practitioners in the AEC field. He has been invited to give talks and teach workshops in many countries including USA, UK, Austria, Spain, Germany, South Korea, Taiwan.
