Building Knowledge Representation for Computer Scientists: Insights from Teaching
ICD/CA researcher Diellza Elshani presents at Forum Bauinformatik 2025 in Aachen
At the 36th Forum Bauinformatik, hosted by RWTH Aachen University in September 2025, Diellza Elshani will present the paper “Building Knowledge Representation for Computer Scientists: Insights from Teaching”, co-authored with Daniel Hernandez, Steffen Staab, and Thomas Wortmann.
The work reports on the Semantic Digital Twins Lab at the University of Stuttgart, a new interdisciplinary teaching format that introduces computer science students to semantic web technologies in the context of Building Information Modeling (BIM). Designed and taught jointly by the authors, the lab combines lectures and hands-on tasks in RDF, OWL, SPARQL, and IFC-based data integration. The presentation will share lessons learned and discuss how bridging semantic and geometric reasoning can better prepare future experts for challenges at the intersection of computer science and the AEC industry.
The Forum Bauinformatik is an annual conference that brings together students, researchers, and practitioners working on computational methods in construction and architecture. More information on the conference can be found here: Forum Bauinformatik 2025 – RWTH Aachen.
