Computational Design and Fabrication Strategies based on the Development of Multiple, Collaborative, Mobile Robotic Fabrication Systems in Architecture

Development of a mobile robotic toolkit for fabrication with fibre composite materials at an architectural scale.

The proposed research focuses on exploring the potentials of fabrication strategies with multiple types of robotic systems operating in one production space at an architectural scale. The aim is to expand current morphospace of robotic fabrication with filament and fibre-like materials by introducing a toolkit of custom designed mobile robotic units.

Agile mobile machines move robotic fabrication processes beyond the constraints of the production hall, exposing vast urban and interior environments as potential fabrication sites. This research proposes using multiple mobile semi-autonomous robots to distribute fiber filament. Compared to larger scale industrial robots that are limited by position and reach, these machines are enabled with locomotion systems and a collection of sensors allowing them to travel and interact accurately within unknown environments.
