Frederik Ernst was a research associate at the Institute for Computational Design and Construction (ICD) at the University of Stuttgart from 2017 - 2018. In 2018, he moved on to become Facade Engineer at Werner Sobek AG.
Frederik holds a diploma-engineering degree in Architecture from the University of Stuttgart. His academic studies focused on digital design tools in Architecture. After his studies he worked for Werner Sobek Engineers on complex facade structures and for FAT LAB on freeform ventilated rainscreen cladding facades and other facade systems.
Frederik's research was based within the framework of the Collaborative Research Centre (Sonderforschungsbereich) - 1244 "Adaptive Building Skins and Structures for the build Environment of tomorrow". He worked on the collaborative research project A02 entitled "Development of integrative design methods and computational design tools for adaptive structures and their digital fabrication".
